Who doesn’t know the smell of sweaty feet or unwashed socks? Although improved personal hygiene is sometimes a solution, in many cases it has, however nothing to do with taking your daily shower. Sweating is normal and neccessary. The maximum secretion ability is 2-3 litres an hour (!). Transpiration glands have an important function in the body. They provide for the regulation of body heat. In addition, they transport water and salts.
Sweat largely consists of water and a small amount of chemical entities, which, however can make life tough indeed. The largest number of sweat glands are found on the feet, the palms of the hands, in the armpits, on the forehead and in the genital area. The sweat itself is odorless liquid. Only when it comes into contact with bacteria that live on your feet, it creates the unpleasant foot odor. These bacteria thrive in a humid environment.
Sweat also contains much more complex compounds, among others connections of steroids and carboxylic acids such as butyric acid and Valerian acid. Those connections are odorless. Certain micro organisms break those connections and at that moment free butyric acid and Valerian acid are formed. The split of the previously mentioned complex connections is caused by bacteria. Those bacteria thrive very well when acids such as butyric acid or Valerian acid are present. They multiply and that is also at the expense of the other micro flora that are present on the feet. The result is a growing group of acid-forming bacteria, and an ever-weakening group of other micro-organisms. Under circumstances it may even be, that the organisms responsible for athlete’s foot also get a chance to go proliferate. It is indeed known that people with sweaty feet, more often suffer from athlete’s foot.
The overgrowth of acid-forming bacteria can be stopped by Pedifresh by the presence of an ingredient, that will be broken by the formed butyric acid in a connection, which is fatal for the acid-forming bacteria. By the production of butyric acid, bacteria die also. It is therefore possible to check the quantity of the acid-forming bacteria – not with the intention to kill them all. For those acid-forming bacteria play a role as well in a healthy microflora of the foot. This is called a bacteriostatic action. Our body releases itself in balance, in this way.
